2017 has been absolutely nothing like I thought it would be! Thankfully, I didn’t stretch myself too far beyond my limits with my New Year’s Resolutions! Let’s take a look and see how they’re shaping up now that we’re a little over halfway through the year.
1. Visit 3 new states or 1 new country. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to travel internationally this year, which is disappointing. The good news is, we’ve already visited 1 new state for me and another new state for Andy! I had never been to Iowa, which is where we live now. Andy had never been to Minnesota, and we visited there to in-process with Battalion (he is assigned to the Minneapolis Recruiting Battalion.) We have 9 other states on our wanderlust list for the next 3 years here in Iowa! So, we’re making great progress on this goal!
2. Read 100 books. By the end of June, I had already read 71 books! 🙂 That averaged out to about 3 books per week! As of the time I wrote this post, we had 26 weeks left in the year and I needed to finish only 29 books– a little over a book a week. I feel highly confident I can achieve this goal!
3. Pay of $3,500 in debt (aka my Discover card). Yup! We paid it off in March! I’m really glad I didn’t set a “bigger” goal, because I would have been really discouraged when we temporarily stopped our debt snowball due to the unexpected PCS orders. We’re both hopeful we can knock out another debt once we receive our DITY incentive pay. 4 . Learn a new hobby or skill. I still haven’t learned a new skill, I don’t think. I did make a list of things I would like to do/learn and also a list of e-courses that I’d like to take, so I still feel like I’m learning something new! It counts 😛
5. Blog goals– grow my blog. I didn’t exactly quantify this goal, but I have noticed an increase in blog traffic. I’ve also finally been able to figure out social media scheduling (thank you, Buffer!) and I’m slowly going back and updating old posts with new links, images, etc. I am still planning to work through Elite Blog Academy 3.0 and I also have tickets to two blogging conferences this year– FinCon and Mil-Blogging Conference! So, I’d say I’m doing pretty well at accomplishing this goal also! I don’t want to mark it as completely accomplished, because there’s still so much to learn!
Lastly, I wanted to make a quick comment on my Bible verse for the year.
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
-Proverbs 16:9 (NLT)
I had no clue when I picked this verse that it would be such a fitting one for the year, but God knew. It may have been a surprise to us when Andy was selected to be an Army recruiter as well as us being stationed in Iowa for the next 3 years, but it was not a surprise to Him. He led me to pick this verse and He will be with me every step of this crazy Recruiting journey!
How are your New Year’s Resolutions going?
