It’s been a while since I mentioned it on the blog, but my hometown is about 45 minutes away from Santa Claus, Indiana. I grew up going to Holiday World theme park every year (and even worked there one summer!) but had never visited Santa Claus at Christmastime until last year, when Andy and I went. We absolutely loved it– so much that we decided we’re going to make it an annual tradition every year that we’re stationed in Kentucky. It’s a bit of a farther drive now (about 1.5 hours each way), but we just turned on an audiobook and went on our merry way!
We first ate dinner at Brick Oven Pizza. We ordered a medium pepperoni and sausage pizza, cheese sticks, and 2 sodas. It was actually affordable, to which we were pleased! The pizza was decent, but not the best we’ve ever had. (And yes, we do actually rank our favorite pizza parlors! So far Pizza Hut is #1 in our book.) Unlike last year, we skipped the $15 entry fee to the Land of Lights and just viewed them from the highway.
Then we went to the nearby shops to pick out our Christmas ornament for the year. The below ornament was $60 because it is hand-painted… painted inside the glass! There was also a cute little Christmas village that reminded me of the Christmas village my mom always had when I was a child. Someday I’d love to have a Christmas village of my own, but they’re super expensive! The littlest pieces were $20 with the whole set running into the hundreds of dollars.
After walking around for a while, we finally found an ornament that we liked. To our surprise, the store had free personalizing, so we opted to have our names and the year put on it!
After that, we headed on home. A short-but-sweet trip, but we loved it! Going to Santa Claus is going to be our Christmas tradition. I can’t wait to take little Cumminses there someday!
What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?
