On Monday, I attended a training seminar in Evansville called “Managing Multiple Priorities.” I wasn’t quite sure what I’d expect to get out of it, but I left feeling like I got my money’s worth.
The seminar instructor showed us how to do mind-mapping. It reminded me of brainstorming for portfolio writing in elementary and middle school. (Ugh.) Really, though, the mind-mapping was really helpful. I found myself making goals for things that I didn’t even think about before. In fact, I’m feeling inspired to make New Year’s Resolutions that I didn’t make this year. I’ll share more about those goals another day, but for now, here’s a few other things I learned from the seminar: to increase your reading speed, track the words with your hand; your refocus time is between 6-18 minutes, so try to decrease your interruptions; and your brain works in two ways– a conscious “rider” and an unconscious “horse.” Take control of the reins and control your horse.
