I mentioned yesterday that I went to a training seminar and left so inspired in my career, blog, and personal life. The seminar instructor mentioned that one year, instead of making a bunch of resolutions that she couldn’t stick to, she made one resolution a month. I’ve decided to follow that same idea with my “New Month” Resolutions.
For my first month, I decided to start with the most important thing in my life, my faith. I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t feel like I have a close relationship with God like I used to. I still believe, but I don’t feel Him. I know He’s here, but I can’t feel it.
So my big goal for the month of May: Strengthen my relationship with God.
But how? Through three little steps.
1. Read my Bible daily. I feel like I’ve been substituting my time with God with other things than His word. Sure, Christian books and devotionals are great, but I haven’t really been in His word.
2. Go to church and Sunday school each Sunday. Confession: On Sundays that I teach Sunday school at 10:45, I skip main church and go straight to Sunday school. On Sundays that I don’t teach Sunday school, I just go to main church and don’t involve myself with a small group. I resolve to change this.
3. Pray throughout my day. I’ll be totally honest, I haven’t really had a conversation with God in a while, which is probably why I feel distant from Him. I remember in college, my best prayer times was when I worked in the cafeteria, washing dishes in the dishroom. We had silent conversations together and I felt so great and uplifted each day at work. I plan to pray throughout my day, from a “Thank you for waking me up” prayer in the morning, to asking for His wisdom and guidance as I work on projects, to a “Now I lay me down to sleep” prayer each night. Additionally, I resolve to turn off my car radio on the way to work (it’s a 3 minute drive from my house!) so I can have a conversation with Him, or just bask in His presence.
