Since we decided to make an overnight getaway out of our trip to Cave City, we needed a place to stay the night. I knew exactly where to stay: Wigwam Village. Originally built in 1937 (the same year my Papaw was born!), it was one of 7 teepee motels built across America.
Only 3 remain, this one and 2 others (out west on Route 66) so this was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I remembered the teepees as “so big” when I was a kid, but apparently my childhood memory failed me, as they are just 14 feet in dimension!
The teepees are a comfortable size for 2 people, and at just $60 a night it was affordable for our inexpensive getaway. Sadly, the place is run down compared to what it was 20 years ago, but our teepee was still clean enough to stay in (trust me, I am paranoid about clean hotels ever since our bedbug experience.)
I probably wouldn’t stay there more than a night, but it was a neat experience and one we got to mark off of our Bucket Lists!
Have you ever stayed at Wigwam Village or in a teepee?
