Meet Lily, our new little girl. She’s a 1 year old shepherd/lab mix. She’s so sweet and a bit of a scaredy dog.
Andy had been talking about getting a dog pretty much as soon as we returned from our honeymoon. I had been adamantly against it. After all, you know who will have to feed it and take it on walks and let it out to potty all the time when Andy is deployed? Me. I don’t want that much commitment! Plus, I don’t think we can afford it!
But then I decided, life is too short. I can have my cat, Andy can have his dog, and life will be just fine. We can make room in the budget for a dog, just like we’ve adjusted to everything else thrown our way. Plus, getting a dog will hopefully stop all the baby questions 😉 Specifically from my husband, who has baby fever like no other man I’ve met before! XD
So when my neighbors posted on the neighborhood Facebook group that they were giving away their dog because they were PCSing to Hawaii, I was instantly like “Honey, why don’t we get her?” The pup (then called Lotus) is up-to-date on her shots, and they were giving away her kennel, food dishes, leash and collar as well. They brought her over to meet Gracie, and although they weren’t best friends right off the bat, they did pretty well together. So we suggested keeping Lotus for a few days to see how the pets did together.
They got along pretty well, once they warmed up to each other! Gracie likes to tease her and chase her around the house even though she is much smaller than Lily! So we decided to make this a permanent thing. We changed Lotus’ name to Lily and our family was set!
Even though I’m not a dog person, Lily is growing on me! I do feel much safer having her around to keep an eye on things when Andy is gone.
Andy is smitten already! It’s so cute hearing him baby-talk her or sit down and play with her!
The best part is, I had been saving a “Super Secret Fund” in our budget– which was actually pretty easy since I do all of the budgeting and just fill in Andy on the details– for about 2 months now. So, when we adopted Lily, I surprised my husband with an extra $40 I had snuck away in a “Puppy Fund.” Best surprise ever! (Just like when Andy surprised me with a kitten when he proposed!)
PS This is the only “baby announcement” you’ll hear from us for a long, long, long time 🙂
