When Andy had a 4-day weekend due to MLK Day, we decided to take Friday as our “date day.” Drew’s daycare was still open, so after I finished work, we were able to spend a few hours just the two of us. For a hot minute, it felt like we had our “old lives” back – something I sorely miss sometimes.
At this point in the never-ending lockdown, there wasn’t much we could do. In fact, we couldn’t legally travel more than 15km (12 miles) from our house. Needless to say, it quite limited our options!
We grabbed lunch from the PX Food Court and drove around for a bit, stumbling upon the nearby village of Parkstein. The town sits on an inactive volcano that you can hike up, which we decided to do. It was definitely not a child-friendly hike – the steps were icy, and it was cold, but we had a blast nonetheless.
At the top of the basalt cone is an adorable little church. We enjoyed the views, but just for a minute so we could get back to the warmth of our car.
After our hike, we drove around exploring the Bavarian countryside. The snow was stunning – it felt like we were in a postcard!
Our “date day” was a lovely few hours together. No matter what we’re up to, we love spending time together 🙂
