Some of my favorite blog posts to read are product reviews. Even though they aren’t riveting like storytelling blog posts, I almost always learn something new that changes my life. For example, I learned about Amazon’s Subscribe & Save program through Erica from Whimsical September’s Subscribe & Save review posts and I learned that Crock-Pot liners are a thing through my friend Chelsea from Anchors Aweigh. Now, I’m a faithful Subscribe & Save user and one of the items I purchase the most is Crock-Pot liners! I’m absolutely hooked on random product review/suggestion posts, so if you share any on your blog, I would love to read it! That’s why I write “My Favorite Things” posts– because these items/companies have been beneficial to me, so I hope they are for you, too!
When I first heard about PopSocket last year, I knew that I would buy one just as soon as I bought my new iPhone. Well friends, I finally upgraded my phone to the iPhone 8 Plus– and a PopSocket was a necessity since the 8 Plus is gigantic! It’s taken me a while to get used to using the PopSocket instead of awkwardly contorting my fingers around the phone, but now that I have, I can’t go back!
A few years ago when I sought treatment for depression, my therapist mentioned light boxes as a way to boost your mood and energy. Last year I had a rough first winter here in north Iowa, and I think part of that was because I didn’t get as much sunshine as I do in the summertime. Since I don’t exactly want to repeat last winter’s mood, I bought this light therapy lamp. I started using it for about 10 minutes every day and have gradually increased my time to 30-45 minutes. Call it the placebo effect if you want, but I have noticed an increase in my energy levels and positive mood since using the lamp. Plus, it brightens up my dark office!
This eye mask was one of my impulse purchases last year, but oh my goodness, am I glad I bought this! I was recently suffering from a sinus headache, so I popped the eye mask in the microwave for 30 seconds — and wow! A cold compress has been my secret “cure” for migraines for a while now, but the hot eye mask was just as refreshing. I might have to buy myself a second eye mask so that I can have one in the freezer and one to microwave.
As an avid reader, one of the biggest issues I’ve struggled with is figuring out what to do with books when I’ve finished reading them. Since we’re 1.5 hours away from the nearest bookstore, it makes no sense to spend money on gasoline to drive to another city just to sell books for pennies on the dollar. Although I could donate them to a local thrift store, I wanted to recoup as much of the money I spent as I possibly could. I was thrilled to discover Paperback Swap. I list my gently-used books on this site, other readers request my books, and I mail them out (paying the shipping cost through the USPS Media Mail.) When the reader receives the book, I earn a credit that I can use to request a book that will be mailed to me for free. I ordered this pack of 25 envelopes from Amazon for mailing the books. On average, it costs me about $3 for each book I send; since I earn a credit for each book I send, it’s basically buying a book for $3. This is well worth it to me since I can buy books off my wishlist and as I mentioned before, we have no new or used bookstores in the town where I currently live.
This is an odd item to add to my favorite things list, but hear me out. I have had a Litter Genie for my cat, Gracie, for 2.5 years. I absolutely love my Litter Genie, but the refill bags are rather pricey. Thankfully, I discovered these generic cat litter bags on Amazon. They are cheaper than the name-brand ones yet still fit the Litter Genie. The best part is they are a Subscribe & Save item, so with my 10% Subscribe & Save discount, they are about $10 cheaper than the name-brand bags. Let’s be honest, it’s a bag that holds cat waste… Gracie doesn’t know the difference 😉
