This July marked 10 years since my Papaw passed away. With my wedding just 3 weeks before the 10th anniversary of his death, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on my Papaw lately. Oh, how I wish he could have been at the wedding! I wish Papaw could have met Andy. Both being Army men, they would have gotten along like two peas in a pod. Andy occasionally reminds me of Papaw, and it brings tears to my eyes at times. Papaw taught me so much wisdom in the 13 years that I knew him and I’m so thankful to have had him in my life. He’s the reason I love to read and pushed myself so hard academically when I was in college. He taught me about finances and patriotism. When he passed away, his funeral was so highly attended that it was standing-room-only.
When I reflect on Papaw, most of the time, I’m sitting down with a photo album (I can’t watch home videos because it hurts too much) and my Papaw Bear. At Papaw’s funeral, one of his friends gave my sisters and me each a teddy bear. She said Papaw was like a teddy bear to everyone he met– friendly, lovable, and huggable– and wanted us to have something to remember him by. I’m so thankful for Papaw Bear to ease the heartbreak we were experiencing after he unexpectedly passed away.
For the first few years after Papaw died, Papaw Bear was a constant in my life. I kept him on my bed (yes, even as a teenager!) and slept with him each night. As I grew up, I moved Papaw Bear to a shelf in my closet because I didn’t want to him to wear and tear. When I was moving from Owensboro to Fort Knox this summer, I re-discovered Papaw Bear in my childhood bedroom closet, along with my other stuffed animals. I boxed them up to give to my children someday, but before doing so, I washed my stuffed animals and added some liquid fabric softener that I bought at the commissary, specifically Snuggle® Exhilerations® Cherry Blossom & Rosewood™. I was careful to not overload my laundry with Snuggle, which I have accidentally done before.
I love Snuggle Fabric Softener because of its Snuggly Softness and long-lasting fresh scents, especially the new cherry blossom and rosewood scent. It smells like a blooming garden in the springtime! With September 9th being National Teddy Bear Day, Snuggle is once again launching their #ShareABear campaign to make the world a better place, one teddy bear at a time. They’re even donating 5,000 teddy bears to children in need to brighten their day. Receiving my Snuggle bear in the mail sure brightened mine!
