Now that we have told my Mamaw in person, we can finally spill the beans on where we are moving to!
And to answer a few questions about the move….
-Where in Iowa are you moving?
A small town of about 25,000 people in northern Iowa called Mason City.
-When are you moving?
Our report date is at the beginning of July. Thankfully, we’ll still be in Kentucky for my 25th birthday, but immediately after we’re hitting the road!
-Why are you moving?
Andy’s been selected for a career-broadening assignment as an Army Recruiter. (For those of you who are new to Becoming Bailey, Andy is an active-duty Army soldier.)
-How long will you live there?
-Will you be living on base?
Hah! There are no military bases in Iowa. We’ll be one of about 4 active-duty military families in Mason City, so we will be living in the civilian population and renting a house.
-Do you have a house rented yet?
Hah, no! The Recruiting command strongly encourages families to wait and sign leases after we check into Battalion in case our assignment changes. So, we are looking at houses online, but can’t do any walk-throughs or sign a lease until we have reported to Battalion.
-Where will Bailey be working?
Your guess is as good as ours! Since my current employer has no locations within an hour radius of Mason City, I will have to leave my job and find a new one. The job market in Mason City is extremely tough (from what we’ve heard) so it could be months before I find another job remotely close to my career field.
-Are you excited to move to Iowa?
Well, we’re excited to explore an area of the country where we would never live otherwise 😉 In all honesty, it will be an adventure but we’re determined to make the most of it!
The next adventure for the Cummins clan begins July 2017!
