Over Memorial Day weekend, Andy and I went to a WWII re-enactment at the Elizabethtown Nature Park. It was created in 2014 to honor “the Greatest Generation” during their service to our country in World War II. The re-enactment is a historically accurate combination of battles fought during the Breakout and Pursuit of Normandy. They had a few WWII veterans there as the guests of honor, and when one of them was speaking to the crowd, he said “I hope I’ll be here next year to come.” 🙁 It broke my heart!
We both loved the re-enactment! Andy initially thought it would be kinda boring– just a few guys saying “Bang, bang” or something– but that was not the case. It was like a real battle, with replica 1940s cars and tanks and everything! Andy said it felt so real that he had the urge to start shouting orders at his squad 😉
It is so neat and so important to learn about history, and I especially loved learning about it from my husband. He was able to explain things in better detail to me since he has personal experience.
Have you ever been to a re-enactment battle?
